NATCHEZ — A false report of a student with a gun on the Natchez High School campus resulted in a lockdown of the school Tuesday and an early dismissal of some students.
Natchez Police Chief Daniel White said his office received a phone call at approximately noon Tuesday from the Natchez High School Office that said they had received reports of a student with a gun.
Law enforcement from the Natchez Police Department and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and assisted campus security with a search of the campus.
“(Officers) responded quite readily to the activity on the campus, looking through buildings along with campus security,” superintendent Fred Butcher said.
Natchez High School was put on lock down for an hour-and-a-half. Some students were released from campus at noon as a result of the situation, Butcher said.
White said officers made a thorough search of the campus and did not find anything.
“What I understand is there weren’t any weapons. Nothing was found,” White said.
Butcher said the staff handled the situation in an orderly manner per procedures already set in place by the district.
