NATCHEZ — After having a tree fall on the back of their house last week, an Adams County family suffered another blow Monday when they discovered the residence was burglarized.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Cal Green said when a county woman visited her Old Courthouse Road residence on Saturday the place was fine. But on Monday, the homeowner noticed someone had gained entry through the window and reportedly took three televisions and a diaper bag.

Green said the family had been in the care of the Red Cross and not living in the residence during the burglary.

The television sets are worth a combined $1,096 and the diaper bag $50.

Adams County Emergency Management Director Robert Bradford said a large oak tree fell on the back of the family’s residence last week as storms passed through, knocking a hole in the roof and damaging a child’s bedroom, a bathroom and a kitchen area.

Bradford said the house is likely destroyed as heavy water damage got into the floors.

Green asked anyone with information on the crime to contact the sheriff’s office at 601-442-2752.

Bradford said residents that want to help families impacted by weather damage, contact the Adams County Chapter of the American Red Cross at 601-442-3656.

Bradford said another family’s residence down the road received minor damage when a tree fell during the storms as well.
