Helen was born Aug. 13, 1916, in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada.

In 1936, Helen began training as a nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and served there as a nurse during World War II, where she met Robert E. Coffman (deceased 1990) of Natchez in 1944. In 1949, they were married and moved to Natchez where they resided throughout their married life.

Helen worked at the Adams County Health Department from 1955 to 1978.  She was an active member of the Natchez Garden Club and First Presbyterian Church for a number of years. In 2004, Helen moved to Bryan, Texas, to be close to her son, Mark, and his family.

Her life touched many — especially countless numbers of school children whose school nurse she was. She believed giving was the best gift. As a mother, one could ask for no better and her children and grandchildren will love her always and miss her dearly.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbra Ann Mayer and husband, Roland; one son, Mark Coffman and wife, Bonnie; three loving grandchildren, Melanie, Michael and Rob; two doting great-grandchildren, Caroline and Will; and a number of family and friends.

The family wishes to thank Helen’s many friends and extended family who have offered support and condolences.
