NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Charles “Sonny Boy” Smith, 94, of Vidalia, who died Friday, April 14, 2017, will be 2 p.m. today at the Natchez City Cemetery with Rebecca Caldwell officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 10, 1923, and was a lifelong resident of Vidalia. He was a retired riverboat captain of “Betty M” at the Vidalia Dock and Storage.
Sonny Boy’s love and passion consisted of fishing and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Mildred Smith; one daughter, Reba Richardson; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer and Bill Smith; two sisters, Thelma Brubaker and Rosalie Kirven; and three half-sisters, Pete, Gusty and Ethel.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosie Duchense and husband, Reggie, of Mobile, Ala., and Annie Todd of Vidalia; two sons, Charles Smith Jr. and wife, Sue, and Elmer “Bud” Smith and wife, Debbie, all of Vidalia; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jason Elliott, Bud Smith, Sam Wilkinson, Shelby Martin, Henry Fitt and Ronnie Cox.
The family thanks Pug Nations, Sam Wilkerson, Kerry Wilkerson, Shelby Martin, family and friends, as well as the staff of Camille Hospice for taking wonderful care of our loved one in the comfort of his home.
