Author to speak to Natchez Historical Society about 10th Mississippi Regiment

NATCHEZ — The Natchez Historical Society will meet Tuesday at the Historic Natchez Foundation, 108 South Commerce St. The speaker will be author Paulette French. The author of “The 10th Misissippi Infantry Regiment: A Record of the Marches, Battles, Skirmishes, and the Men of the 10th,” French will speak on “The Journey of the Natchez Southrons-Soldiers and Citizens-in the 10th Mississippi Regiment.”
When Mississippians enlisted in the 10th Mississippi Regiment in 1862, quite a few were citizens of Natchez. They traveled over three thousand miles on foot and almost six thousand miles by rail under the leadership of Captain Richard A. Inge of Natchez. French will tell the story of the dedication and sacrifice of these brave Natchezians.
The meeting is free and open to the public. A social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program at 7 p.m. For information about the program, call 601-446-6461.
