Franklin County advances to third round

Franklin County High School (20-6) got its offense on track early and kept it going through six innings as the Bulldogs defeated St. Patrick Saturday afternoon in Game 2 of its second round MHSAA Class 3A playoff series, 13-3.

With the victory, Franklin County swept St. Patrick in the best-of-three series, including Friday’s win 4-0. The Bulldogs will advance to the quarterfinals later this week.

Thomas Slagle hit a two-run homer in the first inning to put FCHS on the board first. The Bulldogs recorded 15 total hits in thewin, with six players registering at least two hits.

Jacob Jordan led the Bulldogs hitting, going 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Slagle ended 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. He was followed by Dalvan Hunt, De’Martre Collins, Clay Wright and Chase Freeman, each with two hits.

Collins earned the win for the Bulldogs, tossing 4.2 innings. He gave up just one hit and no earned runs.

Franklin County will play West Marion in the third round best-of-three series starting Thursday.
