CLINTON — Services for Arthur Moreland “Pete” Tyer Sr., also known as, Pete, Pop, Uncle Pete and Mr. Pete, a Pearl Harbor survivor who died Thursday, April 20, 2017, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Clinton with Mitchell Hedgepeth officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mr. Tyer was born Nov. 11, 1940, at Tripler General Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of Aaron Warner Tyer and Helen Roth Feltus.
Pete was a 1957 graduate of Natchez High School. After graduation, he spent a semester at the Citadel before deciding that the field of mechanics would be a more satisfying occupation. He received his training at the General Motors Training Center in New Orleans and worked for Byars-McPhail Oldsmobile and Bluff City Motors in Natchez before he became the service manager at Brumfield Motor Company in Amite, La. He later worked for Bubba Oustalet Ford in Gulfport and East Ford in Jackson.
In May 1974, he opened Tyer’s Professional Auto Service in Clinton where he , his wife, Jackie, and his son Pete Jr., have enjoyed making friends, serving customers, telling jokes, exchanging ideas, rebuilding cars, repairing vehicles and in general keeping up with the automotive world.
Mr. Tyer was preceded in death by his parents and his only sibling, a brother, Joseph Warner Tyer.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Huber Tyer, who he traveled hand-in-hand through 57 and one-half years of marriage producing two fine sons who gave them “two full grown daughters,” Arthur M. “Pete” Tyer Jr., and wife, Linda, and Maj. Jack A. Tyer, Tennessee National Guard, and wife, Deidre; one grandson, 2nd Lt. Jacob A. Tyer, U.S. Army, and wife, Katelyn; one sister-in-law, Anna Huber White and husband, Loyal; one brother-in-law, David Huber and wife, Suzy; a number of nieces and nephews from the Huber, Falkenheiner, Von Gonten and White families; and godchildren from the Irby, Kittrell and Kitsos families.
