Delta Charter School couldn’t get out of its own way Friday night.
The Storm committed eight errors en route to falling on the road to LaSalle 12-2 in six innings in the LHSAA Class 1A quarterfinals.
“We didn’t play very well from the first pitch on,” DCS coach Jarrett Hoffpauir said. “We made a lot of errors. It was kind of one of those things where we put a lot of pressure on ourselves, and we haven’t played that way all year, and it kind of snowballed on us. We’ll chalk tonight up to a learning experience.”
LaSalle got on the board first with a four-run first inning and added at least one run in every frame.
Delta Charter scored its two runs in the fifth. The Storm were led offensively by Drake Smith and Freddie Mango, who each tallied a base hit. Mango’s hit went for a double. The sophomore outfielder also scored a run, as well as senior Carson Curtis.
Despite the playoff exit, Hoffpauir said he’s proud of what his team accomplished in its first year of postseason eligibility.
“It was a big year for us,” he said. “To be able to make the playoffs and reach the quarterfinals, that’s something we’re proud of. We learned a lot and hopefully we can build on it and get better.”
Delta Charter ends its season with a 16-12 mark.
LaSalle advances to the semifinals to be played in Sulphur on Thursday.
