Franklin County High School’s quest for a South State finals appearance will have to wait at least one more year.

Seeking its first appearance in the South State championship in multiple decades, Franklin County dropped Game 2 of its best-of-three series, 10-0, to West Marion, ending the Bulldogs’ season.

For a second straight game, Franklin County’s defense let itself down.

Just a night after committing four errors, the Bulldogs continued to stub themselves in the toe by committing seven more Saturday.

West Marion took advantage by scoring one run in the first inning, two in the third before pulling away with four more in the fourth.

West Marion (18-11) ended with 13 hits overall.

The Trojans won Friday night’s game 4-3 in Bude.

Dalivan Hunt, De’Martre Collins and Jacob Clanton recorded Franklin County’s three hits in the game, with Collins’ tallying a double.

The Bulldogs finished the year under first-year coach Joshua Thibodeaux with a 20-8 mark and claimed top honors in Region 7-3A.
