NATCHEZ — A morning of bluegrass music and praise will fill Morgantown Baptist Church Sunday.
The Trinity River Band will play during the church’s regular Sunday service, starting at 11 a.m.
The Rev. Steven Wiles said the band is nationally recognized and has won several awards for its music and vocalist Sarah Harris, also known by the band as the “lead award-getter.”
Eleven of Trinity River Band’s songs out of their last three albums have reached the top 20 charts of Bluegrass Today, which includes their first single “Come Back Train.”
“They are a Christian band so (residents) should come and hear about the love of Christ,” Wiles said.
Wiles said people should come to the concert: for two reasons — the music and the Word.
“Some people will come here for music when they won’t come for preaching,” Wiles said. “The other reason is to let people hear the Lord and worship the Gospel.”
“Music stirs the soul, and it also releases emotions,” Wiles said. “Different people learn different ways, and people enjoy music. Music has a way of reaching us when regular sermons can’t.”
Wiles said if donations to the band are welcomed.
Offerings made will be given in support of the band to help cover its travel expenses and other needs.
“This is what they do for a living, so this is strictly to support the band and whatever they need (the money) for,” Wiles said.
Trinity River Band is a bluegrass-gospel band from Callahan, Fla., where the band had its first performance in 2007.
Wiles said he has known members of the Trinity River Band for two years, after meeting them while on a mission trip in Idaho.
“They were touring out there and that’s how we came across them,” Wiles said. “We’re very fortunate to have them come.”
