Vote to make election relevant

One of the most important votes in recent memory will occur today in Adams County, and sadly many local voters may not even notice.
Natchez-Adams School District officials are seeking voter approval in an election referendum to borrow $35 million to help fund a district-wide building project.
But in their rush to get the matter to a vote, district officials may be circumventing the spirit of the state law to truly and completely gauge voter approval.
For many residents, if they’ve blinked in the last two months, it would be easy to have missed this election.
No yard signs have been up for months.
No countywide door-to-door campaign stops have been made.
In fact, the election has been eerily quiet.
That silence may in fact lull voters from remembering the importance of adding their simple, “Yes,” or “No” to the ballot.
With the measure on a special ballot with no other issues, many voters may simply not be aware of the vote.
Asking to borrow $35 million is a monumental request, one that will take approximately two decades to fully repay.
Today’s vote is important; no matter which side of the ballot one chooses to mark.
So we encourage all Adams County voters to not only go to the polls and vote, but remind friends and neighbors of the election as well.
For such a vote to truly represent the will of the people, the people must remember to vote.
