Donnell Hargrave

April 1, 1961 – May 23, 2017

NATCHEZ — Services for Donnell “Yogi Bear” Hargrave, of Natchez, who died on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, in Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernest Ford Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow at Mercy Seat Baptist Cemetery in Sibley under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.  Tuesday with a “Celebration of Life” Wake Service at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Mr. Hargrave was born on April 1, 1961, in Adams County, the son of Eddie Hargrave Sr. and Julia Woods Hargrave..

He graduated from South Natchez Adams High School in 1979. He furthered his studies at Louisiana State University. He was a retired bricklayer. Mr. Hargrave was a Baptist.  He enjoyed watching westerns and the Oakland Raiders and talking on the telephone.   

Mr. Hargrave was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Eddie Hargrave Jr., Robert Lee Hargrave Sr., and Carl Edward Hargrave.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hawkins Hargrave; three sons, Kelvin Smith and wife, Ja’mika, Demecio Hawkins and wife, Sarah, and Jim Turner III and wife, Jasmine; one daughter, LaKendra Tillery and husband Antonio; two brothers, Paul Hargrave and wife, Jacqueline, Randolph Hargrave and wife, Deborah; two sisters: Dianne Hargrave Johnson and husband, Edward, and Carolyn H. Fleming and husband, Vernell; fourteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; two aunts, Willie B. Woods and Ruth Woods and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
