Mrs. Etheridge was born Oct. 7, 1924, in Wilkinson County, the daughter of Vernon and Jessie Ashley White. She was a lifelong resident of Natchez.
Mrs. Etheridge and her husband, Bill, were widely known throughout the area as co-owners of True Value Etheridge Hardware, where she was the bookkeeper for more than 40 years. Her greatest joy was serving the Lord by working in church, often referring to her ministry as one of “Helps.” She cherished and embraced her many friends and family with whatever support available, enriching their lives with kindness and love. Equally, she loved to work, especially gardening, vegetables and flowers. For a number of years she was known as “the flower lady” on her street. Some of her other interests were sewing, cooking and needlework.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, H.W. “Bill” Etheridge; four sisters, Juanita Cavin, Frances Brown, Bonnie Gunter and Margaret Ramsey; two brothers, David White and James White; and one son-in-law, Bob Allen.
Survivors include one son, Glenn Etheridge and wife, Cindy, of Natchez; one daughter, Gloria Allen of Cleveland, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Casey Desselles and husband, Scott, of Ponchatoula, La., and Lindsey Lazinsky and husband, Nate, of Oxford; two great-grandsons, Lucas and Finn Desselles of Ponchatoula; one sister, Myrtle Hawkins of Baton Rouge; three brothers, Bobby White, Vernon “Doonie” White and Donnie White, all of Natchez; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Donnie White, Doonie White, Nate Lazinsky, Scott Desselles, Ellis Felter and Vernon White Jr.
Honorary pallbearer will be Bobby White.
