JONESVILLE — Services for Walter Dayton King Sr., 69, of Monterey, who died Wednesday, June 17, 2017, at his residence, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Pentecostal of Jonesville with the Rev. Jack Knapp officiating.
Burial will follow at Harrisonburg Hills Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. King was born Aug. 13, 1947, in Jonesville, the son of Bob Doughty and Ruth Lee Doughty.
He was a member of First Pentecostal of Jonesville.
Mr. King will be greatly mourned by all in the community, but especially the number of children whose lives he touched throughout the years. He was always the leader for all children and especially his children and grandchildren and he was the glue for a number of ball teams. Mr. King was well known to all during his 37 years at Champlin’s Furniture in Jonesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Brother Beard and Momma Ruth Beard; and two sisters, Kathy Andrews and Barbara Prichard.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne King; four sons, Walter King Jr., Dan Byrd and David Byrd, all of Monterey and Kerry King of Natchez; two daughters, Briana King and Olivia Hazlip and husband, Stan, all of Natchez; five grandchildren, Colby Byrd, Kaedyn Byd, Gunnar C. Byrd, Ryder P. Byrd and Stephanie Stockman; and two great-grandchildren, Braxton Holman and Emma Lee Holman.
Pallbearers will be Heath Herron, Lester Jefferson, Daymon Michot, Sedrick Duncan, David Hedrick and Bruce Lofton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Hedrick, Tommy Champlin, Paul Riggs and Stan Hazlip.
The family extends thanks to all who has reached out and supported them through this difficult time. Everyone has their own “Big Daddy” stories to cherish and share in his memory.
