VIDALIA — Services for William Floyd Staggs Sr., 84, of Vidalia, who died Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at his residence, will be 1 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Davis officiating.
Burial will follow at Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery in Franklin County under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mr. Staggs was born Oct. 8, 1932, in Centreville, the son of Lester Edward Staggs and Mary Lea Ivey Staggs. He served as a staff sergeant during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Staggs was employed by Sears for more than 35 years and was instrumental in helping bring the Sears catalog retail store to Natchez. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending Louisiana State University football games with his sons. More than anything he valued time spent with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Cynthia Nowak and Elaine Keith.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of almost 62 years, Lydia “Lottie” Womack Staggs; two sons, William “Billy” Staggs Jr. and wife, Suzanne, and Harry Lee Staggs Sr. and wife, Dixie, all of Vidalia; six grandchildren, Harry Lee Staggs Jr. and wife, Christy, of Denham Springs, La., Cashion Aultman and husband, Josh, of Hattiesburg, Sara Thomas and husband, Kendall, of Minden, Paige Welch and husband, Mark, and Rachel Staggs, all of Vidalia; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Helen Staggs of Vidalia and Dorothy Ulmer of Ferriday; and a number of special nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Lee Staggs Jr., Buddy Davis, Ed Crawford, Josh Aultman, Kendall Thomas and Mark Welch.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ferman Ulmer, Jay Lewis, Darin Tucker, Hiram Copeland, Jimmy Simmons, Audley Case, Otto Dukes, Jerry Lee Williams, Bubba Fitt, Jerry Clark and Nathan Martin.
