Louisiana drops pool play opener in 16U World Series

The 16-and-under Southwest team dropped its first game of the World Series Monday night to Latin America, 5-3.
The Vidalia-based squad was led by Alyssa Howard who hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Latin America held on to its five-run fourth to take the win.
Jensen Gremillion took the loss for Southwest, pitching the first three innings. Shelby Mason came in to finish the game and recorded three strikeouts.
Savanna Spear, Marlee Magee and Shelbi Cross each ended with two hits in the game.
Southwest will play its second pool play game of the tournament at 8 p.m. today against Delaware.
