VIDALIA — Services for Roy L. Strickland Jr., 76, who died on Friday, July 28, 2017 at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be at 11 a.m. today, at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Kunnumpurram officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until of service time today at Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Strickland was born on May 22, 1941 in Centreville, the son of Roy L. Strickland Sr. and Rose Boudreaux Strickland.
Mr. Strickland was a person of many talents and interests, too many to list them all, but he loved hunting and fishing, making his own fishing jigs. He would catch various moths, butterflies and insects to meticulously preserve, mount and display. He was also an avid photographer and loved spending time researching family genealogy. Mr. Strickland worked at International Paper Company for 35 years and retired as an instrument electrician. For many years he was also a DJ for local radio stations KFNV, WMIS and WNAT.
Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert Joseph Strickland and his brother, Gayle Thomas Strickland.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Flournoy Strickland; one daughter, Sheridon Strickland Green and Aldus J. Courville; one sister-in-law, Jeanell Strickland of Baton Rouge; two nieces, Laurie Hauard and husband, Tom, of Lakeway, TX and Susan Jensen and husband, David, of Baton Rouge; one nephew, Alan Strickland and wife, Sue, of Chesapeake, Va.; a number of great nieces and nephews and many close friends.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of their choice.
