NATCHEZ — A memorial service for Sue Buford Gandy, 90, who died peacefully Saturday, July 15, 2017, will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Stratton Chapel. A private family ceremony was Saturday, July 22, 2017, in Sumner.
Mrs. Gandy was born June 8, 1927, in Madison Parish and grew up in Tallulah, La. She spent most of her adult life in Natchez, where she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and the Natchez Garden Club. She was always known to assist her friends in times of happiness and sorrow.
Sue loved working in gift and antique shops where she could visit with locals and tourists about Natchez. She would offer local history as well as suggestions on the perfect place for lunch or dinner. She also had a knack for arranging flowers. There wasn’t a yard in Natchez that she didn’t know and she would call on friends or strangers to see if she could cut a few things to make her arrangements look just right. In 1996, she moved to Baton Rouge to be closer to her children.
Mrs. Gandy was preceded in death by her parents, Warren Duncan Buford and Vera Magee Buford.
Survivors include four children, Susan Gandy Olds and husband, Rusty, Warren Buford Gandy and wife, Nell, Thomas Howard Gandy Jr. and wife, Paula, and William Wiley Gandy and wife, Christy; two sisters, Warrene Buford Ivy of Greenville and Janet Buford Givens of Senatobia; six grandchildren, Mary Margaret Singer and husband, Wyn, Anna Magee Gandy, Robert Warren Gandy, Thomas Howard Gandy II, Nancy Meng Gandy and William Walker Gandy; and two great-grandchildren, Trip Singer and John Hart Singer.
The family sincerely thanks the devoted staff at Amber Terrace Assisted Living and The Hospice of Baton Rouge for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Hospice of Baton Rouge or First Presbyterian Church in Natchez.
