Addison Jackson initially didn’t know what to expect of her USSSA Elite Select Futures softball squad during competition this week at the World Series. Now, she has nothing to worry about.

Jackson’s team — the Southeast Americans — will play for a championship at 11:30 a.m. today against the Southeast Nationals.

“I’m excited because I didn’t know what our team was going to be like,” Jackson said. “I love my coach and all my teammates.”

Jackson has more than done her part to help her team reach the title game.

Originally selected to the all-star group as a shortstop, the 12 year old has played multiple positions during the tournament, including her specialty — pitcher.

Jackson has combined to pitch nine scoreless innings, including a complete game performance Wednesday in a doubleheader nightcap. She has allowed just one walk with multiple strikeouts.

“She spends a lot of time working at this,” Addison’s father Eric Jackson said. “She got her prize this week. Her hard work paid off.”

As she readies herself for the start of her seventh-grade year to begin next week, Addison will also begin her second year as the starting pitcher for Trinity Episcopal School.

“That’s pretty awesome to pitch for high school,” she said. “I was surprised (I got to pitch in Orlando) and happy because I did so well. I love showing people what I have because they weren’t expecting it.”

During the week, Addison has also gained experience at other infield positions including first and second base, as well as spending time in right field.

“It was great to play other positions and getting to learn new things,” she said.

Addison’s influence hasn’t stopped on defense.

During her team’s semifinal victory Friday, Addison went 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs. Eric said during the tournament, she is now 9-for-14.

Addison also drove in the winning run of her complete-game win.

“I’ve been working really hard on my hitting this season, so I was hoping I would do well,” Addison said.

Despite a stellar performance so far during the World Series, Addison said she still wants more.

“I’m thankful to be here, but I want to win,” she said.
