Shavoké Herrington hauled in a 3-yard touchdown pass from Chris Scott and intercepted two passes on defense, and Natchez High School beat Amite County 16-0 in its jamboree contest Friday night at McComb.

“This is just another step in the right direction for us. We’re trying to keep moving forward,” Natchez High coach Roy Rigsby said.

Rigsby said Herrington would have had another touchdown but it was called back because of a penalty.

“He played big in big moments,” Rigsby said.

Scott ran for a two-point conversion, and threw a 70-yard pass to Dedarious Jackson to set up Herrington’s touchdown grab.

“Chris led the offense and did a great job,” Rigsby said.

Natchez and Amite County played a regular half for the jamboree.

Rigsby credited first-year defensive coordinator Steve Collins for the Bulldogs’ impressive showing defensively.

“We’re more structured and more disciplined,” Rigsby said. “They’re playing assignment football and playing very aggressive.

“My coaches are the best coaches in the world. They did a great job tonight, and I’m very proud of them.”

Natchez opens its 2017 campaign on the road next Friday at Wilkinson County.
