NATCHEZ — A funeral mass for Barbara Kathleen Dickey Spencer, 78, formerly of Natchez, who died Thursday evening, Aug. 10, 2017, at The Gardens Altus Hospice in Beaumont, Texas, will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. Henry Shelton officiating.     

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

The visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Mrs. Spencer was born Feb. 24, 1939, in Natchez, the daughter of George Raymond Dickey and Kathleen Burns Dickey. She was the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lewis Dickey and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Emmett Burns.

She was a loving wife, mother, aunt and grandmother, and she will be dearly missed.

She was a 1957 graduate of Cathedral High School and attended Ursuline College in Louisville, Ky. She was a devoted homemaker. In recent years, she especially enjoyed her employment at the Natchez Visitor Center.

Mrs. Spencer was a member of the Pilgrimage Garden Club. She was also a past member of The William Dunbar Chapter and current member of the Colonel George Moffett Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid reader and birdwatcher.

Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis Martin Spencer Jr.; one sister, Patricia Dickey Moroney; and one son, Raymond Michael Spencer.

Survivors include one sister, Leneen Dickey Blansett and husband, Richard, of Dallas; two daughters, Kate Spencer Jabbia and husband, Vince, of Beaumont, Texas, and Beth Spencer and husband, Bob Cummings, of Oxford; three grandsons, Will Spencer and wife, Camilla, of Washington, D.C., Benjamin Cummings of Oxford and Vincent Jabbia of Beaumont; two granddaughters, Bridget Mueller of Austin, Texas and Kathleen Jabbia of Beaumont; one nephew, Richard Lee Moroney III of Huntsville, Ala.; five nieces, Jennie Moroney of Houston, Patrice Moroney Garcia of Cypress, Texas, Cris Moroney Hughes of Oxford, Sheree Wilson Bryant and Amy Wilson Sanders, both of Baton Rouge.

Pallbearers will be Emmett Burns, Max Burns, Vince Jabbia, Bob Cummings and John Glass.

Honorary pallbearer will be Charles Conner Burns.

The family thanks the staff of Camellia Hospice of Oxford and Riceland Hospice of Beaumont.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary Basilica.
