The Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams look to rebound from their loss last week at Centreville Academy — and give Mac Newcomb his first win as head coach — when they host the Glenbrook School Apaches at 7 p.m. Friday.
WCCA lost to Centreville 36-6, avoiding a shutout on D’Mario Weathersby’s touchdown pass to Landon Giroir late in the game.
Newcomb said he hopes the loss allows the Rams to focus on what needs work.
“We didn’t tackle well. We didn’t block well. We didn’t do any of the fundamentals well,” he said. “If you can turn a negative into a positive, we realize what we need to work on — getting in better shape.”
Newcomb said his team, will prepare itself on both offense and defense.
“Just the fundamental stuff,” he said. “Nothing fancy — blocking and tackling.”
MAIS Class AA Glenbrook is coming off a 13-6 win at Clinton Christian Academy after trailing 6-0 at halftime.
“They’re a bigger school. That’s where the conditioning sets in,” Newcomb said. “From what I’ve seen and heard, they’re not as strong as Centreville. It still doesn’t matter who we play if we don’t take care of our business — block, tackle, execute.”
