Wilkinson County High School rebounds on road to top Amite County

The Wilkinson County High School Wildcats scored 24 points in the second quarter and cruised to a 38-12 win over the Amite County Trojans Friday night.

Wilkinson County may have found its starting quarterback going forward. Freddie Byrd completed 19 of 24 passes for 391 yards with no interceptions. The Wildcats also had three 100-yard receivers and a 100-yard rusher on the night.

Terrence Turner had seven catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Drequan Cage had six receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Trevion Miles had four catches for 124 yards. Terrell Coleman had 14 carries for 115 yards.

Nolan Thompson III scored first for Wilkinson County on a 65-yard punt return and later scored on a touchdown run.

The game was tied at 6-6 at the end of the first quarter before the Wildcats broke the game wide open with their big second quarter. Jaquan Tickles led their defense with seven tackles and one interception.

Wilkinson County (1-1) will be off next Friday night before playing at Heidelberg High School Sept. 8
