The Centreville Academy Tigers look to get back on track Friday after a setback last week, but it will not be easy as they play host to the undefeated Parklane Academy Pioneers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Centreville (1-1) is coming off a 29-7 loss at Oak Forest Academy. Parklane Academy (3-0) shut out Copiah Academy, 19-0.
“When we played Oak Forest, we weren’t tough enough,” Tigers offensive coordinator Will McNabb said. “When we got down, we just gave up. We’re trying to get tougher mentally and physically.”
And the Class AA Tigers will perhaps need to be more physical because for the second week in a row they take on a team from MAIS Class AAAA.
“They’re going to be a lot bigger than we are as far as size and the number of players,” McNabb said. “We’ve got to be in a lot better shape. They’ll dress 60 players, and we only have 30 players.”
Parklane’s offense is led by its running game that McNabb said is big and physical as well as its offensive line.
“Their line is tremendous. They look like a college team,” he said. “We have to wrap up. We’ve got to keep them from running free.”
McNabb said that what the Pioneers’ defense lacks in speed is made up with their physical play.
“They come right at you. They’ll hit you in the mouth. Overall, they’re a physical team,” he said. “This week, we’re going to try to outrun them. We have to have more speed than they do. We have to outrun them around the end.”
