Adams County Christian School hung tough with Presbyterian Christian School in the first half. The Rebels even had the lead for much of the second quarter.

But a nine-point swing in the first 21 seconds of the third quarter allowed the Bobcats, ranked No. 4 in the Mississippi A.P. Private Schools poll, to pull away for a 38-7 win over the Rebels Friday night.

DyKevis Ford scored on a 26-yard run and Cris Thompson added the extra point to give ACCS, one of the top teams in MAIS Class AAA, a 7-6 lead with 11:41 to go in the second quarter.

Presbyterian Christian started to take control of the game with halftime approaching. Eric Robinson scored on a 72-yard run with 3:02 to go and Jack Runnels added a 32-yard field goal with 13 seconds remaining to give the Bobcats a 15-7 halftime lead.

Then the Rebels unraveled to open the second half. The Bobcats recorded a safety just seven seconds into the third quarter. Robinson returned the ensuing kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown at the 11:39 mark of the third quarter, and just like that it was 24-7.

Robinson added a 10-yard touchdown run and Brandon Thornton scored on an 18-yard run late in the third quarter to give the Bobcats (3-0) a 38-7 lead.

The Rebels were held to 218 yards of total offense while Presbyterian Christian had 450 yards on the ground. Ford had much of the Rebels’ offense — 14 carries for 85 yards and two catches for 106 yards.

ACCS (2-1) play host to Wilkinson County Christian Academy at 7 p.m. next Friday.
