The LHSAA Class 1A Block Bears gave it their all against the Class 4A Buckeye Panthers, but it was not enough as Buckeye came away with a 50-30 win over Block Friday night.
Buckeye led Block 28-14 at halftime and increased its lead to 36-14 in the third quarter. The Bears tried to get back in the game in the fourth quarter, but the Panthers scored two touchdowns of their own to keep any chances of a rally from happening.
“I’m pleased with our guys. They played extremely hard all game,” Block first-year head coach Josh Loy said. “We were a little overmatched as far as numbers, and they kind of wore us down at the line of scrimmage. But we competed and never gave up.”
Zorian Bowie threw three touchdown passes and a pair of 2-point conversions on offense and had 11 tackles and one interception on defense. Cameron Stewart led the Bears’ defense with 17 tackles.
Block (0-1) hosts Sicily Island at 7 p.m. next Friday.
