NATCHEZ — Services for Allie Johnston Mayers, 92, of Natchez, who died Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dillon Wickliffe officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Mrs. Mayers was born on Oct. 25, 1924 in Winnsboro, La., the daughter of Hardy and Nettie Wright Johnston.

Mrs. Mayers moved to Natchez after graduating from high school. She worked for Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company, Bellsouth Telephone Co. and J. C. Penney and was a volunteer at the Natchez Community Hospital for 25 years. Mrs. Mayers was married to George H. Mayers Jr. for 52 years. She was a longtime faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she was actively involved. She was president of the WMU and taught Sunday school for more than 40 years. Mrs. Mayers was kind, gentle and caring. She was a strong Christian woman and a true warrior for Christ. Her love for God was instilled in her family. She loved spending time with her family, and her grandchildren will always remember her as their “Sweet GG.”

Mrs. Mayers was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Billy Ray Johnston and Bud Johnston, and three sisters, Minnie Johnston Betts, Addie Johnston Massey and Ruby Johnston Davis.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Mayers and daughter-in-law Karen Scott Mayers, and George Alan Mayers and daughter-in-law Lisa Dale Mayers; one daughter, Beverly Mayers Leach and son-in-law Jerry Leach; six grandchildren, Ann Marie Mayers Pate and husband, Brady, Brent Leach and wife, Sara, Brian Leach and wife, Alison, Allison “Allie” Mayers, Tyler Jordan and Alex Dale; four great grandchildren, Lily Leach, Mabry Pate, Asher Leach and Adeline Leach; two sister-in-laws, Sarah Weeks Davis and Bobbie Johnston Rowlen; nephew, Danny Weeks and wife, Melinda, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Brent Leach, Brian Leach, Danny Weeks, Brady Pate, Tyler Jordan and Jeff Johnston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church in Natchez.
