The Delta Charter Storm will look to improve to 2-0 on the season when it hosts to the Lincoln Prep Panthers at 7 p.m. Friday.

Delta Charter cruised to an opening-week win — 26-12 over the Homer Pelicans. Lincoln Prep goes into this game at 0-1 after a 28-13 loss to Red River.

There were quite a few things first-year head coach Blake Wheeler said he was pleased with about the Week 1 win at home.

“I thought we performed pretty well. We showed a lot of heart. We didn’t have any turnovers. We forced three. We had some guys step up when other guys were cramping up,” Wheeler said.

While the Storm racked up more than 300 yards of total offense and held Homer to 199 total yards, Wheeler said there are still some things that either need to be improved or cleaned up.

“We had a couple of trips in the red zone, and we had a little trouble punching in,” Wheeler said. “We had several penalties that I didn’t think really show who we are as a team — a couple of personal fouls here and there, a couple of holding penalties.

“Our third-down conversion rate needs to be higher. We were 3-for-13 last week. It needs to be higher than 50 percent.”

Wheeler said the biggest challenge Lincoln Prep presents is its size.

“They’re a big team. They’ve got really big linemen on their team — a big front offensively and defensively,” he said. “They’re going to challenge us, especially running the football. We just have to use our speed and quickness. Hopefully, it all pans out on Friday.”
