Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCalip was born Jan. 7, 1933, in Rosetta, the youngest daughter of Eugene and Malva McCurley. She never knew her mother who died as a result of that final childbirth.

Malva was a woman of enormous strength. In her home, it was never possible to think women were in any way weaker than men. Her faith and determination never wavered, including especially her 60-year commitment to Grace Church.

Malva was also preceded in death by father; all seven siblings, Arie, Eugenia, Finton, Juanita, Grady, Ilda Mae and Elna; her husbands, Albert Starr and Floyd McCalip; and her greatest loss, her son David.

Survivors include one son, Michael and wife, Ann Seligman, of New York City, and a number of beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Deepest gratitude to the McCurley clan for their loving support in hard times — you all brought her enormous joy. Special thanks to Christina Hall, who provided such excellent care for Malva in her time of deepest need.

Please hold a warm thought for the spirit of Malva Starr McCalip, who found peace at her home in Natchez.
