Wilkinson County Christian Academy is still searching for its first win of the 2017 season, and this week will have the advantage when it comes to numbers.
The MAIS Class A WCCA Rams (0-5) host to the Class AAA Silliman Institute Wildcats (1-4) with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Friday.
Both teams are coming off of shutout losses — WCCA 44-0 at Amite School Center and Silliman 41-0 at home to Parklane Academy, ranked No. 3 in the AP Mississippi Private School poll.
Head coach Mac Newcomb said two things played into the Rams being defeated.
“We didn’t execute well. They were more physical than we were,” Newcomb said. “We have to be more physical, and we have to execute better.”
Newcomb also said that Silliman is a better team than its record would indicate halfway through the season.
“They’ve played some really good competition, so they’re a good team. We certainly have our work cut out for us,” Newcomb said. “We have to play mistake-free football.”
As for what challenge the Wildcats present, Newcomb said they have a lot of talent.
“They have a lot of good athletes and they throw the ball a lot. They’re a good team and a well-coached team,” he said.
