The St. Mary’s High School Tigers scored 27 points in the first quarter alone and rolled to a 56-8 win over the Block High School Bears Friday night in the LHSAA District 3-1A opener for both teams.
St. Mary’s (3-1, 1-0), ranked No. 21 in the Division IV power ratings, scored at will on Block in the first half. The Tigers scored four touchdowns in the opening quarter and went into halftime with a commanding 46-8 advantage over a Bears team that entered this game ranked No. 14 in the Class 1A power ratings, despite not having won a game.
The Bears managed to hold the Tigers to 10 points in the second half, but their offense was unable to get into any kind of a rhythm.
Block (0-4, 0-1) hosts Class 2A Lakeside High School at 7 p.m. next Friday.
