Trinity falls in close match to Prairie View Academy, 22-20

Tanner Caldwell scored on a 12-yard run and caught what proved to be the winning 2-point conversion pass from Hayes Crockett with 6:25 left in the game as the Class AA Prairie View Academy Spartans rallied to beat the Class A Trinity Episcopal Saints Friday night, 22-20.

Trinity Episcopal was held to 22 rushing yards and failed to convert on two 2-point conversions in the second half that could have allowed the Saints to get their second win of the season.

Both teams were penalized heavily. The Saints had 15 penalties for 135 yards while the Spartans (6-1) had 18 penalties for 120 yards.

The loss also marred a good performance by quarterback Sterling Yarbrough, who went 18-for-28 passing for 180 yards with three touchdowns, all of them to Jakarius Caston, and one interception.

Trinity Episcopal (1-5) hosts Claiborne Academy for homecoming and its MAIS District 3-A opener at 7 p.m. next Friday.
