Vidalia High drops first game of season, can’t keep up with Rayville

Rayville High School junior quarterback James Powell Jr. threw six touchdown passes as the Hornets stunned the Vidalia High School Vikings Friday night in LHSAA District 2-2A action, 40-12.
Rayville (1-4, 1-1) led 26-0 before Vidalia finally got on the scoreboard as Jakalen Poole recovered a fumble and returned it 82 yards for a touchdown with 6:55 left in the third quarter.
The Vikings also scored with 1:31 left on Tristan Weatherly’s 6-yard TD pass to Josh Marsaw.
Weatherly went 9-for-19 passing for 125 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Marsaw also had one interception on defense, as did Jamar Lyons.
Vidalia (4-1, 1-1) hosts General Trass for homecoming at 7 p.m. next Friday.
