FAYETTE — Services for Alex Cosey Jr., 71, of Port Gibson, who died Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at the Claiborne County Medical Center, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Israel Church in Fayette with the Rev. James Jones officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery on Mabel Aldridge Road, under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home-Fayette Branch.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today at the Fayette chapel and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Cosey was born April 5, 1946, in Jefferson County, the son of Alex Cosey Sr. and Minerva Brown Cosey.
He retired from Alcorn State University after working 33 years. He was also a member of Mount Israel Baptist Church and served as an usher at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Port Gibson. He enjoyed fishing and watching westerns.
Mr. Cosey was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, O’Neal, Oscar and David Cosey; and three nephews, Michael January, Gary Cosey and Christopher Counsel.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Ratliff Cosey; three sons, Ronald Ratliff, Dexter Ratliff and Marvin Ratliff; four daughters, Ada Ratliff, Dorothy Ratliff, Linda Ratliff and Margaret Walls; three sisters, Anita C. January, Zella M. Durby and Frances C. Ballard; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four nephews, Joe, Lee and Keith January and Ken Ballard; two nieces, Greta Walker and Donzella January; and a number of other relatives and friends.
