NATCHEZ — Services for Gwendolyn Johnson, 92, of Vidalia, who died Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, in Vicksburg, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Birdon Mitchell Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Webb/Winfield Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Johnson was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Iowa, the daughter of Wendell Freeman and Nazarita Roane.
She was employed by AJFC Community Action Agency. She retired in 2000.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Zion Chapel AME Church and served with the Daughters of Richard Allen and the M.J. Brady Missionary Society.
She enjoyed volunteering at the American Red Cross of Natchez, traveling, music and being with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Johnson; one brother, William Freeman; and one son-in-law, Billy W. Franklin.
Survivors include one daughter, Nazarita J. Franklin of Vicksburg; four grandchildren, James Franklin and wife, Lezlie, of Lakewood, Calif., Lusinda Franklin of Vicksburg, Bridget Franklin of Memphis, Tenn., and Anthony Franklin of Birmingham, Ala.; five great-grandchildren, Tylar Jackson, Peytin Jackson, Jeremy Franklin, Cannon Jackson and Joshua Franklin; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Adams and Willa O’Leary; and two special nieces, Carolyn Cubit and Darlene Smith.
