Clinton Christian Academy uses big second quarter to pull away from WCCA

CLINTON — The MAIS Class AA Clinton Christian Academy Warriors used a big second quarter to pull away for a 42-6 win over the Class A Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams Friday night.

Hunter Burgess scored on an 8-yard run with 54 seconds left in the first quarter to cut Clinton Christian’s lead to 13-6. Then the Warriors made sure the Rams would get no closer as they scored 22 points in the second quarter.

Darrius Scott scored on a 34-yard run at the 11:27 mark, Brandon Walker scored on a 4-yard run with 6:27 to go, and Derek Sanders had a 25-yard touchdown run with 2:42 remaining until halftime to give the Warriors a commanding 35-6 lead.

The Rams could not get any rhythm going offensively. They were held to six first downs and 118 yards of total offense.

WCCA (1-7) returns to District 3-A action next Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Trinity Episcopal for homecoming.
