Three arrested on drug charges after crash in parish

VIDALIA — Three men were arrested Monday on drug charges after the driver of a vehicle drove into a ditch on U.S. 84, which prompted law enforcement officers to respond to the scene.Julius Bates, 22, 904 Southside Drive, Ferriday, allegedly drove into the ditch in front of Mobil Mart on U.S. 84.

When officers arrived, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Hedrick said officers found Xanax bars and a substance they suspect to be cocaine in the vehicle.

Hedrick said officers suspect the driver was inebriated.

Bates was arrested on charges of possession of schedule IV drugs, failure to maintain control of a motorized vehicle and a bench warrant for failure to pay fines. Bates’ bond is set at $1,508.

Also in the car were Kevin D. Skinner, 26, 705 Tennessee Ave., and Markell K. Cooke, 24, 27393 Louisiana 15, who were arrested on possession of schedule IV drugs charges.

No bond was set for Skinner Tuesday.

Cooke also had a bench warrant on file for failure to pay fines. Cooke’s bond was set at $540.
