VIDALIA — Services for Charles Mitchell Jr., 78, of Vidalia, who died on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Friday at New St. James Baptist Church in Vidalia with the Rev. Danny Lewis officiating.    

Burial will follow at the Vidalia Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Charles was born Aug. 19, 1939, in Sibley, the son of Charles Mitchell Sr. and Lillian Dailey.

He was educated in the Concordia Parish School System and was a retired oilfield worker.

Mr. Mitchell was a Baptist and was baptized by the Rev. Willie Burton in the 1990s.

He enjoyed fishing and farming.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Thelma Singleton, Gloria Harden and Ora D. Payne; and one brother, Willie Dailey.

Survivors include one son, Christopher Litt Sr.; one daughter, Gwenetta Briggs and husband, Tyrone; two sisters, Martha Burton and Willie R. Marshall, both of Vidalia; stepchildren he raised, Ernestine Evans, Frederick Litt, Calvin Litt Sr. and Leander Martin; five grandchildren, Crystal Litt, Chris Litt Jr., Kayla Litt, Tristan Briggs and Brandon Briggs; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
