VIDALIA — Organizers are gearing up for some riverfront fun, with the annual Vidalia Flea Market and Carnival, as well as the balloon glow in store for this weekend.

Vidalia Marketing Coordinator Hannah Junkin said the flea market would have more than 40 vendors providing a variety of goods.

“There are 42 vendors we have now that will be selling arts and crafts, clothing, food and much more,” Junkin said.

The flea market will be located on the north side of the riverfront near the Vidalia Amphitheater, and all are welcome from noon to 10 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Opposite of the flea market will be the carnival, held on the south side of the riverfront. Visitors can hop over from the market and enjoy rides, games and concessions all weekend long.

The carnival opens from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday. The event will reopen from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and will cap off the weekend from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

In addition to the flea market and carnival, local band Blue Metal River will provide live entertainment at the Vidalia Amphitheatre. Native to the Miss-Lou, the Southern-style, hard rock band is scheduled to take the stage from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and the concert is open to the public and is free of charge.

Last but not least is the much-anticipated balloon glow. Dozens of balloons will inflate beginning at dark Friday.

The serene sight of the balloons will be complemented by a fireworks show to round out Friday’s festivities.
