Wilkinson county falls in close match with Port Gibson, 18-16

PORT GIBSON — The Port Gibson Blue Waves was able to somehow after finding themselves down 16-0 to Wilkinson County High School before coming back in the second half for an 18-16 win over the Wildcats to stay undefeated in MHSAA Region 7-3A Friday night.

Terrell Coleman had 30 carries for 177 yards and one touchdown. Wilkinson County (3-6, 1-3) had 30 carries for 177 yards. But even that wasn’t enough as the Wildcats could not sustain their momentum after jumping out to an early 16-0 lead.

This was not the prettiest of games, though. The Wildcats were penalized 12 times while the Blue Waves (7-2, 3-0) were flagged 11 times. Wilkinson County was also done in by three turnovers.

Wilkinson County is open next week and awaits its playoff fate.
