NATCHEZ — Services for Dr. Scott O. Galbreath Jr., DVM, 92, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at his residence, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dan Wynn officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Dr. Galbreath was born Dec. 26, 1924, in Lorman, the son of Dr. Scott O. Galbreath Sr. and Jonnie O’Quinn Galbreath.
He was a 1942 graduate of Natchez High School. In the spring of 1946, he graduated from Auburn University, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and then returned to Natchez. He married Edeen Harris, Nov. 23, 1949. In 1951, he resumed active duty in the Army Veterinary Corps and was honorably discharged in January 1953. He also opened his veterinary clinic in January 1953, in Westfield, N.J. In the early 1950s, in Rosedale, a cotton farmer, drove weekly to the Natchez Stockyards to test cattle. He moved to Natchez in December 1959, and opened a veterinary clinic. In the 1960s and 1970s, he was a cotton and soybean farmer, with farms at Meadville and Pattison. On Labor Day 1979, he founded Old South Winery in Natchez, maker of muscadine wines. He was founding member of the National Heartworm Association and was a lifetime member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He was active in the Natchez Mississippi Horseman’s Club and was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Natchez.
Dr. Galbreath was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Edeen Harris Galbreath; six children, Ellen G. Connor of Plano, Texas, Diane Galbreath and Scott Galbreath III, both of Natchez, Karen G. Blaylock of Fort Worth, Texas, Sandra G. Martin and husband, Aubry, of Collinsville, Teresa G. Aust and husband, John, of Brooklyn; 22 grandchildren, Heather Briggs and husband, Roger, of Dallas, Rocky Vest and wife, Kortney, of Des Moines, Iowa, Megan Walker of Austin, Texas, Suisan Walker of Mansfield, Texas, Ian Connor of Seattle, Tim Willis and wife, Heike, of Diamondhead, Sharon Henrickson and husband, Mike, of Madison, Robert Blaylock Jr. and Stephen Blaylock, both of Fort Worth, Sarah McCrary and husband, Adam, of Wapauga, Texas, Jarrett Martin and wife, Emilie, of Tupelo, Jessica Paes and husband, Jake, of Canton, Melissa Spencer and husband, J.J., of Memphis, Tenn., Marcus Martin of Flowood, John Aust Jr., and Jennifer N. Aust, both of Brooklyn, Will Aust and wife, India, and Katherine Aust, all of Nashville, Scott Galbreath IV, Dylan Galbreath and Lane Galbreath, all of Natchez, and Juliana Galbreath of Broomfield, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Reagan Briggs, Porter Barrett, Anna, and Mabel Vest, Trip and Luke Willis, Michel Jr., Andrew and Addison Henrickson, Aryana, Makayla, Angela and Sean McCrary, Elizabeth and Alexander Martin, Chase Sam, and Brayden Paes, and Zoe Henry; one sister-in-law, Wanda Fowler Harris of Madison; one niece, Delta Austin and husband, Darrell, of Madison; one nephew, Daniel Fowler and wife, Melinda, of Kosciusko; and first cousin, Louise Kennon of Millington, Tenn.
Pallbearers will be Rocky Vest, Tim Willis Jr., Robert Blaylock Jr., Jarrett Martin, John Aust Jr., and Scott Galbreath IV.
