The Ferriday High School Trojans would not let a lightning delay derail them momentum Friday night as they took care of the Delhi Charter School Gators 54-12 in an LHSAA District 2-2A game.
After the first quarter ended in a surprising 6-6 tie, Ferriday scored 24 straight points to take a 30-6 lead with less than two minutes left until halftime before game officials stopped play because lightning was fast approaching the area.
Once the bad weather was gone, play resumed and the Trojans stayed aggressive in the second half. They scored another 24 points while district newcomer Delhi Charter (4-5, 2-3) managed just six points.
With the win and Vidalia’s 21-7 loss to Mangham, Ferriday is now in charge of its own destiny in District 2-2A. Ranked No. 2 in the Class 2A power ratings and No. 8 in the LSWA Class 2A poll, the Trojans share first place in the district with Rayville and they beat the Hornets earlier in the season.
Ferriday (7-2, 4-1) plays at Beekman Charter at 7 p.m. next Friday. A win and the Trojans are the district champions.
