SICILY ISLAND — While some local games across the Mississippi River were delayed by lightning Friday night, one game was actually called. The Oak Grove High School Tigers defeated the Sicily Island High School Tigers 29-0 in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.

Oak Grove scored 22 points in the second quarter to go up 29-0 at halftime. But at some point during the half, lightning associated with heavy thunderstorms behind a strong cold front was moving in on Sicily Island.

And several lightning delays across the area led to game officials putting an end to the game before the second half could get under way.

Sicily Island (2-7, 0-6) looks to finish the season on a high note when it plays at Tensas High School at 7 p.m. next Friday.
