DELHI, La. — Tristan Weatherly threw one touchdown pass and ran for another in the final 4:31 of the fourth quarter as the Vidalia High School Vikings rallied to defeat the Delhi Charter School Gators 28-20 in an LHSAA District 2-2A game Friday night.
Weatherly threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Devonte Loyd and Leo Lozano’s extra point gave Vidalia (8-2, 4-2) a 21-20 lead at the 4:31 mark over upset-minded Delhi Charter. Then Weatherly sealed the Vikings’ win with a one-yard TD run with 47 seconds remaining.
The Vikings, ranked No. 7 in the Class 2A power ratings, managed just 77 rushing yards, but they made up for that with a solid passing game. Weatherly completed 11 of 22 passes for 163 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He threw TD passes to three different receivers – DeMikal McCoy as well as Kerryon Swift, both of whom managed to catch ball after each pass was tipped, and Loyd, whose pass from Weatherly went over Loyd’s head before he snagged it.
Loyd was the team’s leading receiver with six catches for 68 yards. McCoy had two catches for 27 yards.
Vidalia will learn which team it will play host to in the first round of the Class 2A Playoffs this weekend.
