Shon Edward Tait, 30, who gave an address on Kirkland Road, is accused of felony eluding and possession of methamphetamine in connection with the chase.
Pace said Tait also has outstanding warrants accusing him of grand larceny in the theft of a utility trailer and felony taking of a motor vehicle. The vehicle theft case involves the pickup truck he was driving at the time of the chase. Tait is being held without bail in the Warren County Jail pending an initial court appearance Wednesday.
The two warrants were discovered when sheriff’s deputy Dustin Keyes did a records check on Tait after his arrest following the chase. The truck was towed to the sheriff’s office, where it was searched and deputies found the methamphetamine and a hypodermic needle loaded with meth.
According to sheriff’s office reports, Vicksburg police issued an alert about 10:45 a.m. for a person wanted for questioning about a shoplifting incident. At 11:05 a.m., Keyes saw a vehicle matching the description of the pickup given in the alert.
When Keyes attempted to stop the truck, Tait refused to stop and drove off on Redbone Road. He then went on Jeff Davis Road and later Campbell Swamp Road, where he took the truck off the road near a wooded area, got out with a woman passenger and ran off. Keyes followed and caught Tait. The woman was not found, Pace said, and may not face charges.
