LISBON, La. — Graveside services for Nellie Ruth Hughes, 93, of Lake St. John, who died Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at Riverland Medical Center, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Lisbon Methodist Cemetery in Lisbon, La., with the Rev. Reggie Day officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hughes was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Lisbon, the daughter of Jewel Clayton McDonald and Fannie Maude Nichols McDonald.

She was also known as “Nanaw” and “Momma Nell” by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Hughes; her parents; one son, Freddy Hughes; three sisters; and four brothers.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue Chandler of West Monroe, La., and Penny Jones and husband, Ronnie, of Lake St. John; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Temple and husband, B.J.; nine grandchildren, Pam Wilson and husband, Tim, Donna Moore and husband, Leslie, Stephen Chandler and wife, Sabrina, Mike Hughes, Dana Evans and husband, Alan, Mandy Favors and husband, John, Jenny Towns, Liz Matte and husband, B.J., and Kim Oliver; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Favors, Reese Favors, Brock Towns, Grant Towns, Mike Hughes and John McDonald.
