Trinity, Cathedral split basketball games Tuesday

Jakarius Caston and DeSanto Rollins led Trinity Episcopal boys with 17 points each as the Saints picked up their first win of the season Tuesday night with a 58-41 win over the Cathedral High School Green Wave.

Trinity Episcopal got off to a good start and led Cathedral 17-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Green Wave was only able to cut one point off the Saints’ lead in the second quarter and went into halftime down 29-21. The Saints put the game away with a 19-12 advantage in the third quarter for a 48-33 lead.

Dee Fleming also scored in double figures for Trinity Episcopal (1-2) as he poured in 11 points. The Saints will play host to Wilkinson County Christian Academy at 7 p.m. Thursday in the two teams’ MAIS District 5-A opener.

J.T. Taylor led Cathedral (2-5) with a game-high 19 points, but no one else for the home team scored in double figures. Conner Branton had six points Caden Poole added five points. The Green Wave travel to Liberty to take on Amite School Center at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Cathedral girls 58, Trinity Episcopal 12

NATCHEZ — Nearly every player on the Cathedral High School Lady Green Wave’s roster ended up in the scoring column in its 58-12 victory over the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints Tuesday night.

The game was decided during the first quarter. By the time it ended, Cathedral had a commanding 25-5 lead. The second quarter was worse scoring-wise for Trinity Episcopal as the Lady Saints scored just one point and trailed at halftime 40-6.

Caroline Kaiser finished with a game-high 14 points and Baylee Graning had nine points for Cathedral (6-3), which plays at Amite School Center at 6 p.m. Friday.

Cate Drane scored nine points for Trinity Episcopal (0-3), which hosts Wilkinson County Christian Academy in the MAIS District 5-A opener for both teams at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
