JONESVILLE, La. — Services for Burl A. Woodrum, 87, who died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parhams Baptist Church in Jonesville, La., with the Rev. Tony Gainy and Clyde Grammon officiating.
Burial will follow at Oswalt Cemetery in Jonesville under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home, Alexandria, LA.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Woodrum was born in Huntington, Texas, the son of Samual and Ama Collier Woodrum. He joined the army on December 17, 1948; he was a switchboard operator in the Korean War. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish and just be outside where he loved to garden, pick up pecans and crack them for everyone. Burl was employed by Central Freight Line for 30 years and moved to Monterey in 1977 and started farming. He loved his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Woodrum; his parents; stepmother, Jewel Woodrum; sister, Margie Gilligan; brother, Doyle Woodrum; brother, Darwin Lewis; sister, Imogene Eager; brother, J.L. Lewis and brother-in-law, Watson Gilligan.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Gray and fiancé, Johnny Brigman, of Monterey; three sons, Greyland “Bubba” Woodrum of Zavalla, Texas, Tracy Woodrum and wife, Julie, of Deville, La., and Wade Woodrum and wife, Nichole, of Monterey, La.; one brother, Sonny Lewis and wife, Clara, of Huntington; four sisters, Rena Beth Modisette and Barbara Woodrum of Huntington, Brenda Williams and husband, Lonnie, of Caldwell, Texas, and Marcelene Williams of Shepard, Texas; brother-in-law, Jerry Goodson and wife, Barbara; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be John Brigman, Wayne Holland, Charlie Lucas, Tyler Pere’, Jessie Calhoun and Clay Pere’. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Pere’, Nicky Pere’, Lloyd Holland, Riley Calhoun, Rodney Calhoun and J.W. Calhoun.
