FAYETTE — Services for Donald Ray Shorts, 42, of Fayette, who died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at Jefferson County Hospital, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Poplar Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sabrena Bartley officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home-Fayette Branch.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Shorts was born Sept. 19, 1975, in Fayette, the son of John Clyde Shorts and Susie Mae Cruel Shorts.
He confessed Christ at Poplar Hill A.M.E. Church at an early age. He attended Jefferson County School District in Fayette.
Donald Ray’s hobbies included fishing, detailing cars, training his dog and playing with his nephew, MJ.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rayunna Shorts; his father; maternal grandparents, Melvin Cruel and Marie Starks Cruel; and paternal grandparents, Elle Shorts and Ollie Mae Shorts.
Survivors include a loving and compassionate mother, Susie, of Fayette; five brothers, Marlon Shorts Sr. and wife, Irine, of Fayette, Tommy Fleming Sr. and John Clyde Fleming of Roxie, Jonathan Shorts and Joshua Shorts of Fayette; one sister, Marilyn Nelson of Meadville; four aunts, Rosie Carpenter and husband, A.J., of Lorman, Mildred Whitlock and husband, M.C., of Jackson, Ollie Mae Williams of Ferriday, and Virginia Cruel of Gretna, La.; three uncles, Roosevelt Cruel and wife, Shirley, and Joseph Cruel and wife, Mary, of Fayette, and Edward Shorts and wife, Fannie, of Monroe, La.; 16 nieces and nephews; and a number of other relatives and friends.
