The Ferriday High School Lady Trojans got a spark of offense from sophomore post players Pacha Poole and Tierra Spurs in an 80-52 win over the Block High School Lady Bears Friday night at the Ferriday Invitational Holiday Tournament at the Ferriday Junior High Gym.

Poole led all scorers with 26 points and Spurs poured in 15 points for Ferriday. Senior point guard Anasia Turner contributed with 17 points for the Lady Trojans, who used a decisive 28-5 advantage in the second quarter to turn a close game into a blowout.

“Last night we had a wake-up call against Tensas (a 63-57 loss to the Lady Panthers). We weren’t going to settle for just basics,” Lady Trojans head coach Lisa Abron said. “We came out with a different mindset. We were just clicking on all cylinders.”

Block, however, got off to a good start and only trailed Ferriday 20-16 at the end of the first quarter. But the second quarter proved to be the Lady Bears’ undoing as they went into halftime down 48-21. That was in large part not only to Ferriday being more aggressive on both ends of the court, but its press defense as well.

Delicia Ceasor, Cintina Green and MaKayla Mackey led the Lady Bears with 10 points each.

Both teams will be in action today in the final day of this tournament. Block (8-7) will take on Tensas High School at 3 p.m. Ferriday (7-3) takes on Marksville High School at 1 p.m.
